早在2010年第67届威尼斯电影节上，吴宇森导演就曾获得终身成就金狮奖。吴宇森坦承拍摄新版《追捕》是为了向偶像高仓健致敬。这部电影正是他回归往日风格的一部全新动作片。所谓“新”，就是“很多人认为我只能拍男人戏，我想证明我也能拍出女人之间的英雄戏”，并表示很开心能够回归最擅长的战类型电影，“感觉非常好”。
